Marketing is proving a popular career choice in Malawi, especially amongst young women. Most say they have chosen this career because they want to be marketing managers and help market products for various companies. They said they were inspired by young women who were currently occupying top jobs in various companies.
Yamanya Zava and Nassila Dasu are two young women who are pursuing marketing at Blantyre Business College and their wish is to land top jobs after finishing their studies.19-year-old Yamanya said that while her early intention was to pursue a course in business computing, she later found out that marketing has better prospects. She is currently pursuing a diploma course with the Institute of Chartered Marketers (ICM).
Yamanya said in many colleges for one to enroll for a marketing course you need to have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) plus good grades in English and business studies.
“Marketing has a lot of career development prospects for young women. Upon completing my course I intend to join the fast-growing Malawian marketing industry,” she said.
Similarly, 19-year-old Nassila who is also studying a marketing diploma with ICM feels that young women have the potential to advance in the marketing career.
Apart from being offered in private colleges, marketing is also offered at the University of Malawi’s Polytechnic in Blantyre. For one to attend the University of Malawi, you need to pass the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with six credits including English. One would then study a Bachelors degree in Business Administration, majoring in marketing.
